Alaska Fishing Vacations - Call of the Wild
Experience vast wilderness, frozen tundra, melting glaciers, pristine lakes and everywhere you go
great fishing...
There is something about wide open space, breathing clean air and not seeing other people
that has become so rare today. I cherish those moments when all I hear is the rustle of leaves
moving wih the wind, the
call of birds and that splash fish make when they leap and fall. Is there any wonder why
Alaska's fishing vacations are one of the most popular ways to spend a couple of days or weeks
available. If you want
to escape the hustle-bustle of daily life, there is not a better answer than a relaxing fishing
vacation in nature's wonderland.
Salmon is common along the Alaskan coast - where you'll also find giant halibut. Many visitors
catch salmon weighing up to 50 pounds. Other varieties of fish, like grayling and northern pike,
throng the many inland streams waiting for the savvy or amatuer fisherman.
The extreme tides and ocean currents surrounding Alaska create ideal habitats for baitfish,
which in turn attract returning salmon and bottom fish in astounding numbers. Alaska's officials promote
fishing as
its main sporting event and why not. There are some many species of fish to seek here.
Large numbers of tourists visit the state to take part in this adventurous sport. But no matter how many
visitors there are,
you won't be crowded. Less than a million people live in Alaska, and of those folks, about a third reside
in the city of Anchorage.
South-central Alaska is home to the most famous fishing areas in the state. Coastal waters and
watersheds abound here provide the vactioner with varied land and seascapes to view and enjoy. In
addition to salmon and halibut, other fish like trout, pike, grayling, Dolly Varden, burbot, whitefish
and other species can be found year-round in the many watersheds that form the main tourist
attractions.

region, along with trout, pike, burbot, char and shellfish.
For first-time visitors to Alaska's fishing grounds, a professional guide is advisable. Taking part
in a guided tour of a particular locale or using the local guide of the fishing lodge you are staying are good
Ways to learn the lay of the land and what is biting.
Guided tours will often provide appropriate fishing gear as well.
What are some of the major tourist attractions in Alaska? There is Denali National Park, which is home
to the highest peak in North America - Mt. McKinley. The Kenai
National Wildlife Refuge, the
Kenai Fjords National Park, the Chugach National Forest and the Arctic Region and Inside Passage are other places to go.
Along with the multitude of fish species you might see such wildlife as grizzly bears, caribou,
golden eagles, Dall sheep, moose, and wolves.
Whether you want to fish from a boat on a bay or wade through a backcountry stream, consider Alaska for
